Dog Bathing, Brushing and Clipping
Did you know you could get your dog to adore its baths, brushing and clippings? Puppies need to get accustomed to their grooming; beginning early while still young is the best time for puppies. This will aid in preventing any grooming issues in the future as the dog ages.
Every dog requires grooming on a regular basis whether they have a long coat, such as Samoyed, German Long-haired Pointer and Lhasa Apso, or if they have short coats such as Basset Hounds, Boxers or Labrador Retrievers and even those in between.
Each Breed of Dog Has Specific Needs
All dogs need basic grooming care such as brushing and bathing or ear and teeth cleaning and their nails trimmed, however different types of coats will involve different steps of grooming. For instance, a breed with long hair is more complicated and time consuming. It is essential to begin grooming a puppy early as they become acquainted to the routine of grooming. When a puppy learns to enjoy the process of grooming at such an early age, it creates a peaceful and pleasant atmosphere for you and you dog.
Everyday Puppy Grooming
To create a positive experience for your puppy, you should familiarize the puppy with the process slowly, yet often. Introduce the puppy to each piece of grooming paraphernalia by showing it to the puppy and letting it sniff the object for a few moments, one at a time. Then offer the puppy a small treat.
For instance, while introducing a brush, you gently touch the puppy with the brush while offering the treat. When the puppy accepts the brush, you them gently brush one stroke and then offer a treat. After about the third brush stroke the puppy will relax while understanding that brushing feels good. If you break the procedure down into small steps, the puppy has the opportunity to accept the positive experience you have created within each step of the process.
Introduce the puppy to the grooming station where it can become acquainted with the area before you begin grooming. For instance, a couple of days before having a bath you will place the puppy in the bathtub while it is dry, then let the puppy play with a toy and offer it a treat. The next day, repeat this process, although you should add at this time some water and a sponge. Allow the puppy to get used to a small amount of water slowly before filling a tub for bathing.
You will follow the same technique when introducing any other grooming tools such as a toothbrush or nail clippers. Taking the time to introduce grooming to your puppy will ensure a pleasurable experience for you and your dog for the rest of their life. The Hydro Surge Rapid Dog Bath is an excellent product to make bathing a snap!

A Few Tips To Help Your Housebreak Your Puppy
Housebreaking a dog or puppy is often the most stressful aspect of owning a pet. However, the process can be less challenging if you have a few tips to help you out. This article will give you pointers on dog potty training based around the concept of accident prevention rather than punishment.
Puppies are a lot like children in that their minds are like sponges, which is why most people begin obedience and potty training when during puppyhood. The main thing which you must understand before beginning the training process is that a puppy does have limited control of his bladder, so it is best if you admit to yourself that accidents will happen, and come to terms with the idea. A good thing you can do for your puppy is to buy him a crate or similar place that will be his own “personal” space. That way, if you’re unable to watch him for a time, the accident will be in the crate and not somewhere around the house where you may not notice for a while.
One of the best things you can do for your puppy (and your sanity!) is to develop a regular routine as soon as you can. Try to feed him, take him outside, and put him down for bed around the same time every day. This will get his “body clock” set to the routine and he will eventually learn to rely upon this, as long as you follow through on your part and keep the routine as constant as possible, at least until your pup gets a bit older and develops more bladder control and adaptability.
When an accident does occur, don’t get upset or hit your dog. If you didn’t catch him in the act, simply put him in his crate while you clean up the mess. There is no point in trying to punish him, as he will not know why he is in trouble. If you do catch him in the act, giving him a firm ‘No!’ will let him know you are upset. Immediately take him to the proper spot outside and praise him if he goes again.
Though it requires dedication and patience on your part, training your dog by keeping to a routine to avoid messes in the first place is much more effective than trying to teach him through punishment. Now that you have succeeded in dog potty training, you can move on to teaching him to bring you the remote! Or for the little or arthritic dog, train him to use dog stairs! Even if your dog is perfectly healthy, pet steps can greatly reduce the amount of impact your dog’s joints receive.
Dog behavior observation
Every day dozens of little puppies find new homes with willing and happy humans, who decide to harbor the little doggie and allow it to become a member of the already existing family. Dogs understand that they belong to a pack now and will need a lot of guidance and training in order to develop to healthy and productive dogs. Certain behavioral problems will arise, based on the breed and the already developed patterns or existing instincts, but that is normally nothing the owner can’t handle, with or without professional help. It is important that the new leader of the pack observes the newcomer closely, behavior of which will signal any uprising problems way in advance.
When a young puppy enters a new home, many behavioral problems will become evident. Unfortunately, trying to explain to the dog that what it did was not proper after the deed has already taken place will have no effect. The secret is to catch the dog doing it. When the dog is, for instance, marking the territory, then the owner needs to catch it in the act and reprimand it. The dog learns only then that this very deed is forbidden and refrains from doing it again. Depending on the breed and the intelligence of the dog, several reprimands may be necessary, before the dog understands what he is being asked to stop doing. It is again imperative to keep a keen eye on the animal, because only then you will see and catch him in flagrante.
Should behavioral problems arise, which the owner is unable to correct, or where he does not understand why these problems have arisen, then the specialist in dog behavior observation needs to be consulted. Such professionals are named dog behaviorists and have sometimes a very serious academic background in human and animal psychology, as well as other animal related sciences. These people observe not only the animal, but also the owner, or the designated leader of the pack. Very often the problem displayed in the aberrant animal behavior is the result of a problem existing in the relationship between the owner and the dog.
It is therefore imperative to constantly observe the behavior of your dog. Your dog will display any problem or misgiving in its behavior and will expect you to understand what it needs, because you are the leader of the pack. Ignoring any such behavioral messages the dog is sending, may result in more serious problems, up to the point where the dog is not regarding you as the leader anymore and may challenge your leadership.
