Tips for Obese Dogs
Dog obesity is a serious issue for any pet owner who wants to own an animal. The problems that overweight dogs have can create big problems, including serious health issues and difficulty moving about. Unfortunately, pet obesity is an increasing trend within the United States. Add to that the idea that the FDA has approved dog obesity medications to give dogs when they are overweight; the world is facing a real crisis.
If you ask the experts they will give several reasons dog obesity is so acute. The single biggest problem is giving too much food, especially leftover human food and scraps from the table. While owners think it is cute to feed Fido off the table, it could be actually killing him. Human food just can’t be handled properly by dogs, nor does it really provide the nutrients that they need for their health needs.
Another reason dogs are seriously overweight includes lack of exercise. Try to make sure you get out often enough to keep your dog fit. This can be a particularly big problem for indoor dogs, since they don’t have room to exercise if they’re not taken out. So unless being walked by the owner, dogs don’t smell the fresh outdoors.
The best way to deal with dog obesity is to look at the dog owners immediate lifestyle. By helping your dog keep healthy, you’ll also be helping yourself stay healthy. Make sure you make time for a walk every day. Try to get the rest of your family to agree not to feed the dog food from the table. Have your dog eat only from his source of food and regulate it. If your dog continues to gain weight, consider lowering how much of their dog food you give them as well.
If you think that your dog might be facing an obesity problem, you really need to consider taking some steps to correct it. The first step always needs to be taken by the owner.
