Common Human Foods Unsafe to Dogs
Dogs are considered as surrogate children of the family and to ensure the health of the pet, pet parents would provide the dog pricey premium quality pet foods. The begging expression on the dog’s face would be very difficult to resist thus anything the pet wants will be given by the owner. Because of the owner’s love for the pet, the master’s place on the bed or on the coach will be occupied by the dog. When the dog whines to have a taste of the food the owner is eating, the owner will immediately share the food. Sharing the food with the pet is acceptable as it enhances the bond between dog and owner but the owner has to make sure that the food being shared is safe for the dog to eat.
A dog owner has to know what foods are toxic to dogs. Humans would derive healthful benefits from fruits and vegetables. Dogs must steer clear of grapes, avocados, from tomatoes and potatoes as well as from mushroom and broccoli as these foods can cause poisoning. These fruits and vegetables have substances that are not tolerated by the dog’s system. Dogs eat anything and owners have to prevent the pet from eating fruit pits and seeds because of the cyanide they contain.
Dogs must be prevented from ingesting milk and other dairy products as these human foods cause dogs to have diarrhea. Chocolate and sugar-free candies, coffee, tea and alcoholic beverages are proven to have toxic effects to dogs. Onions and garlic are unsafe food for dogs too.
The ancestors of modern day dogs have subsisted on raw food. Raw fish, raw eggs and raw meat are considered by dog experts as unsafe foods for dogs. Dogs with a raw fish diet would eventually lose appetite, seize and in severe cases die because of thiamin deficiency. The dog can be affected by the e coli and Salmonella bacteria found in raw eggs. Moreover, dogs that regularly consume raw eggs can develop poor coat and other skin concerns because of the avidin, an enzyme that is found in raw eggs. Dogs must be prevented from eating fat trimmings as excessively fatty food when ingested by dogs would cause the inflammation of the pancreas. In dogs, fatty foods will cause the pancreas to get inflamed and to rupture and cause digestive enzymes to seep into the other organs.
Vomiting and diarrhea are the manageable consequences of giving the dog toxic human foods but some foods have more serious effects that results to the death of the dog.
