A designer dog bed is simply a bed that has a special design that is outside of the norm. If you think of the norm as your basic flat, cushioned pad, then almost anything that goes beyond that could be considered “designer.” This can include some pretty plain beds, not to mention simple beds specially designed to fulfill therapeutic purposes. But of course, the majority of designer beds are more like dog bed furniture created with a certain amount of style and perhaps even a bit of mischief in mind.

Along with those beds that lean toward streamlined European elegance, you’ll also find the designer dog bed that leans more toward the exotic. For example, this would include the type of bed that has a bit of an eastern flair. You can see examples of this at Glamour Dog (www.glamourdog.com), with luxury dog beds that call to mind a Sultan’s tent or a yurt on the Caucasian Steppes. These are round tent beds, often decorated with jewels or fur, that have canopied roofs that rise to a spire in the center. Although, if it comes with flaps that hang down from the edge of the roof, it starts resembling a circus tent.

However, a designer bed for your pooch isn’t inevitably a thing of luxury. There are many custom designs that focus on different things also. Various beds possess a country feel to them, made to resemble four-poster beds or big, overstuffed chairs. Some are more eccentric, so you could wind up with your dog slumbering in a car, a laundry basket or a gazebo.

And remember that beds made of memory foam, which are more orthopedic than anything else, are also thought of as designer beds as they add something special to the usual design.

A designer dog bed can have functionality as the determining factor in its special design, or its pattern can be a matter of sheer whimsy. You might prefer the sort of cool dog beds that feature feathers and velvet, simply so you can express a sense of luxury. Or you may be more interested in the responsibility implied by going with an ecologically friendly bed, made of recycled or all natural materials. The dog probably won’t care that much, but if you can find a designer bed that allows it to sleep comfortably but still lets you express yourself, then you’ll both be happy.

If you have a dog you need to be thinking about the things it needs, such as a dog bed. Whether you’re looking for designer dog beds or just a comfy place for your pet to sprawl out, click here to find out more about what to look for in a dogs bed.
