Dog behavior not eating suddenly
When it comes down to food, dogs are like humans, they enjoy eating and love their chow. They need to eat in order to survive, but regard the actual eating like a hobby or a favorite pastime. When a dog develops any kind of deviation to the eating behavior patterns, then such an occurrence is reason for concern. Many eating disorders are closely related to health problems, therefore if the dog stops eating something it used to love, you should be worried.
When a dog is not feeling okay, or feeling sick, your dog will probably not eat. Do not force the dog to eat if it does not want to. Allow your dog to skip this meal, even if you know that usually your dog loves to eat the food you gave it. If you think that your dog not eating may have medical reasons, then do not wait, call the veterinarian immediately. It’s better to call once too much than be sorry you did not call in time.
Your dog may grow bored with the food you serve it. If you do not provide your dog with a variety, then perhaps your dog is not hungry enough to eat all the same stuff every day. A little variety is good, also check how much food you are giving your dog to eat. Maybe today you tried something new and the dog did not like it? Make sure you have something else in the house, like premium dog food, which you can substitute, if you are trying new stuff out.
The other possibility may be that your dog is getting food from somewhere else, or someone else, for that matter. Maybe your kid, when walking the dog, stops by a place where the dog is given something to eat? Or the neighbors started feeding your dog with stuff, or are throwing their scraps over the fence into your yard and your dog is eating that? Make sure you know where your dog goes and what is your dog getting to eat elsewhere.
It comes down to this: either your dog is sick, or it is getting food somewhere else. If you can eliminate the latter, then it is very much recommended to call the vet. Serious problems can be reasons for your dog not eating, it is best to find out which are they, before your dog has developed some illness or ailment which may damage it permanently or even lead to mortal consequences. Be responsible and make sure that your dog is being treated in time.
