Labrador Retriever: A Sweet and Gentle Disposition; Excellent and Efficient Skills and Talents
Labrador Retriever is a pet name popular all over the world particularly in North America. When you have seen this breed, you will agree with the descriptions: genuinely kind-hearted, affable, family-friendly, reliable and clearly sharp in intellect. They are unquestionably lovable creatures and in fact, the American Kennel Club hailed them as the US’s most famous pet.
Originally from the icy territories of Canada specifically Newfoundland, these useful and lovable gentle dogs spread in fame at places such as North America and the world all over. Before their present fame, however, going back to Newfoundland, they were great companions to fishermen and game hunters in the region. This breed tagged along side the fishermen to haul in fishing nets and captures back the jerking fishes that are trying to escape the perils of the nets; with hunters, they swam freezing lakes and other bodies of water to retrieve the game quickly and efficiently.
Also lovingly called as “Labs”, the Labrador Retriever is a superb family pet of thousands of households all over the world. How can they not be noted as superb when they are inherently cheerful, sweet spirited, amiable, soft-hearted, energetic, and never aggressive? Not only are they suited with children’s play and spirit but are suited also in socializing with strangers and other pack of animals or dogs.
This breed is kind-hearted, amiable, and very easy to train; their sweet disposition makes them supremely lovable and you won’t be able to help but make them your favorite. They have an excellent level of intelligence and have an affectionate heart that allows them to be naturally tractable making them inarguable in obedience and reliability. It doesn’t matter whether you tag this breed along in hunting, at play, or at competitions; you can always expect them to be docile and very capable and this has been proven by thousands of Labrador Retriever owners all over the world to be true.
Commonly, the breed comes in three different colors; yellow, black, and chocolate; these are the standard colors but other combinations or impurities of color are considered out of standard and is not given weight during competitions by the kennel clubs. Their fur is thick, short, and dense that it feels a bit hard when touched; they have outer and inner coats, too, that is water and weather resistant allowing them to survive any kind of weathers and any form of ground. Their body, longer and taller, is compact, sturdy, muscular, and strong that’s perfect for the high energy and endurance demands of hunting and other activities.
Labs are also perfect as playmates to children and parents don’t have to worry as much when the children is at play with them; this breed is inherently playful, gentle, friendly, and naturally affectionate and kind and so they are not likely to be hostile towards persistent and tireless children. As a housedog, the Lab is reliable and extremely loyal and will make a good watch dog but as a guard dog, they are not as excellent. During hunting, Labs are truly retrievers; they redeem shot games and swim across unforgiving waters in able to do their part as a hunting companion to their masters.
Today, however, because of the discovered trainable skills and excellent temperament of the Labs, they are taken from the four walls of the house and transferred to do a much important and socially meaningful task; these tasks go way past the popular obedience competitions and hunting expeditions. Outside the home, the Labs are equally efficient in police work, narcotics detection, and guide for the blind, service dog for the disabled, search and rescue, sledding, and carting.
Just like any other pets as well, Labrador Retrievers are grouped in show line and field line. Show line Labs are generally heavier and more affable wherein the field line Labs are somewhat more energetic and have the tendency to become high strung if not given a rigorous activity regularly. The Labrador Retrievers are gentle and obedient dogs and they will reach their best potential if their human owner treats them with firmness and with leadership.
