If you own a Maltese dog, you may want to familiarize yourself with the Maltese puppy cut. Being a member of the toy class of dog, the Maltese weighs between three and ten pounds. This breed of dog’s claim to fame is its silky flowing fur coat, which lacks an undercoat.

Maltese fur does not shed the way of animals shed fur. With no undercoat, this breed’s fur must be kept clean and brushed fairly often. To keep the chores to a minimum, owners sometimes choose to give their pets the Maltese puppy cut-also called a teddy-bear cut-which is a short cut, with all-over lengths of about a half-inch at most.

This style is certainly less fuss and may be more comfortable for the dog, but it’s not acceptable for a show dog. While there are tools that you can use for your puppy cut, if you do not feel comfortable or if your dog gets angry when you try to groom them, then you will have to find a professional groomer that will trim your dog’s hair.

After getting the cut, your job will be to maintain cleanliness and avoid mats by brushing. Doing so makes you dog comfortable and maintains his health.

Brushing keeps the mats away and removes dead hair, which is the cause of bad smells. Brush “with the flow” of the fur as going against the flow this will encourage matting. Not a difficult task with this particular puppy cut.

Your dog should enjoy the way the brush feels. You can brush your dog at any time as long as he is comfortable. It will only take a few minutes to properly brush your Maltese.

The Maltese breed is a fun-loving breed and they don’t mind getting dirty while running around, playing. So, guess whose responsibility it falls to for proper grooming of his fur? That’s right, yours!
