Rescue dog
Dogs are one of man’s earliest friends and their services have been utilized in every field right from medical fields to a variety of other purposes. There are dogs for every purpose. Rescue dogs are used to rescue people in emergencies and also in movies. There are several search and rescue dogs that are shown on the TV. The rescue dogs are amazing and are extremely well trained animals. Most of the rescue dogs that are used are larger breeds of dogs. Though size is not a requirement, most of the dogs belonged to the larger breed of dogs. The dogs used as rescue dogs are German Shepherds, Golden Retrievers, Rottweilers, Dobermans, Labradors and Schnauzers.
These dogs have to be trained and certified as a search and rescue dog. The training takes a year and the training is given twice a week. The candidates must exhibit trainability, endurance, agility, and must also get along with other dogs and also people. A rescue dog is one half of a team. The other half is the owner or trainer. There are certain requirements that have to be fulfilled by both the handler and also the dog. A rescue dog is one that must be agile and must rescue people at the same time.
The rescue dog handlers are usually physically fit and respond to emergencies. The handlers are very intelligent and are proficient in radio communication, land navigation, first aid and wilderness survival. Dogs are the best search tools for rescue. Victims of disasters who undergo nightmare of being located find great relief from the rescue dogs. The rescue dogs just play a game by finding the human being and if the victim is alive it is a reward to the victim. The rescue dogs possess the capability of saving numerous human lives with their powerful smell sense, exceptional hearing, rigorous training and amazing bond within the handlers and the rescue dogs.
The rescue dogs do not always enjoy working. Sometimes they are quite exhausted because of physical fatigue. During situation such as 2001, September, the rescue dogs had to undergo severe emotional problem as they are unable to locate living people. They feel sad and pain due to the frustration seen in their guides face. Another tricky situation is when these rescue dogs have to locate dead people. The rescue dogs must have the ability to resist difficulties and should be exceptionally motivated. The rescue dogs are used to find people buried due to landslides, avalanches, evidence in crimes and drowned people corpses.
