Eventually your dog will be trained to respond to hand signals or voice commands that allow them to realize it’s time to stop. If your pet does not respond to ordinary training, there are training aids like dog bark control collars that you’ll buy and use to teach your pet what is expected and to prevent barking. Nowadays’s bark collars are safe and effective. In addition to the standard and somewhat controversial static collars, you’ll choose from collars that use sound or bursts of air (with or without citronella) to discourage barking. Collars activate themselves when the dog barks rendering them helpful for controlling this habit even when you are not home.

Shock Collars

A shock collar operates by delivering a tiny static jolt to the dog when it detects a bark. This shock has been compared to the intensity of a static shock you would possibly feel when walking across carpet and touching metal. It might be unpleasant, but it does no actual harm to the pet at all. Most models of shock collars have a user adjustable setting to work out how much static to deliver to the dog.

Citronella Collars

Dogs just plain abhor the scent of citronella, therefore these collars work by releasing a small burst of this smell directly within the direction of the pet’s nose after they bark. Soon, a dog begins to associate the barking with “that repulsive smell” and the dog will avoid making noise to avoid the scent.

Sonic Collars

A dog has more perceptive ears than a person does and they’ll hear frequencies that we have a tendency to can not. A sonic collar works by delivering an inaudible sound that is unpleasant for the dog when it detects them barking. This sound will do no more injury to their ears than their barking is doing to yours, however it’s likewise not enjoyable for the dog. In an attempt to avoid the sound, a dog learns not to bark.

Before going to these lengths it will be helpful to attempt and understand exactly why your pet is acting up. Therefore, what causes some dogs to bark excessively? A dog will vocalize for a variety of different ordinary and perfectly natural reasons. They could bark to provide you with a warning of danger or to induce your attention. Some also persevere out of boredom or excitement. Whereas they do not do it simply to harass you, overzealous barking will be downright frustrating for a pet owner who just needs an instant of peace. Luckily with a bit of coaching and time, you’ll be able to successfully rein in this habit and recoup your sanity.

All about Dog Potty Training

Regardless of how cute your puppy is when you bring him home, resist the temptation to delay dog potty training until later. Even very young puppies can be potty trained successfully.

A Crate

A puppy crate is a very helpful tool for dog potty training. A crate gives your dog his own “space” that he won’t want to soil particularly at night. Be sure he given plenty of opportunity and encouragement to go potty before he’s crated.

Choose The Right Food

You may be tempted to buy cheap dog food, but you will most likely regret it in the end. Cheap dog foods are full of fillers. Since the fillers can’t be digested and processed into fuel, they pass through your dog’s digestive system causing gas and creating large amounts of stool. Higher quality dog foods do not have as much filler so your dog passes much smaller stools

A Standard Schedule

Establishing a schedule for your puppy from the beginning will go a long way toward potty training him. Feeding should be done at the same times every day followed by taking him outside to relieve himself about 15-20 minutes after he eats. He should also be given the opportunity to go outside after naps and immediately upon being removed from his crate in the morning.

Clear Communication

Establish words that your dog can learn to associate with relieving himself. Use that word consistently to avoid confusing him. It’s also important to learn your dog’s signals that he needs to go outside; restlessness, sniffing around (especially in places he may have had an accident at some point) or going to the door can all be signals that your dog needs to go.

Constant Reinforcement

When your puppy does well, praise him. Using the word he’s come to associate with elimination, “good boy to go potty outside” will help him strengthen the connection between going potty and being praised.

Successful dog potty training requires patience and persistence but the pay off is well worth the effort. Well mannered dogs are a joy both to their owners and those around them.

Dog Owners Guide : Stop Dog Chasing

Chasing, whether it be cats, cars or even people, is something most dogs love to do. Unfortunately though, despite dogs that chase generally not actually hurting whatever it is that they chase, they still can cause themselves or others some harm in the process.

It is very irresponsible of owners to allow their dogs the opportunity to chase. So, it is important that, as the dogs owner, you see it how others see it, as annoying and dangerous. Don’t worry though, it is something that can be corrected with a little time and effort.

It is not as simple as just yelling at or hitting your dog after it has chased something. You might think that doing this would make it less likely to do it next time, but it rarely does. It’s instincts will kick in again next time around and the pain it suffered last time will be soon forgotten. Taking a proactive approach, rather than a reactive one, is much better.

The very least that you should is not let your dog be in a situation that allows it to chase in the first place. Keep him on a leash or in a fenced yard if necessary. Keep your dog and those in the surrounding area safe until you learnt to predict his behavior and you have him trained to obey your commands.

To prevent them from chasing an owner needs to understand his dogs cues. It is common for dogs to give some indication, such as a prolonged stare or a lifted leg, before they set off after something. Once you know what it is that your dog does, you can act before it does. You should be able to find this out fairly quickly as dogs are creatures of habit.

To stop a dog from chasing, it needs to learn to obey your commands. You need to teach your dog some basic commands to start with, such as sit down and come here. Once your dog understands these skills it will be easier to stop him from chasing.

So, lets now look at how to train a dog to do what you tell it to do. First obtain the toy or treat that it likes the best. Place it about 10 ft. from the dog, and then allow it to go towards it. As it starts to move, command it to either sit down or come to you. After it has done what you want, say okay and let it have the toy or treat.

After having done this with just you and your dog, ask a friend for their assistance. Your dog should be standing or sitting by you, then your friend should past waving a toy or treat in their hand. Should the dog start to chase then give a firm command to it to come back to you or to sit down. Once it obeys your command, give it the reward.

This might take some time and patience, but your persistence will pay off. Just stay positive, patient and stick with it and you’ll get there.
