Pets From Motion Pictures That Made Huge impacts
If you think back over some of your favorite movies, many of them will have an animal in it that is integral to the plot. Animals generate big bucks when it comes to box office revenue.
Some film makers spend weeks deliberating which animal to use in their movie. But the success of “Lemony Snicket’s unfortunate Series of Events” shows that a mismatch of dogs, cats, snakes and fish also works well.
Both life action and cartoons have been built around a central character/s that is an animal. Here are some of my favorites, and there’s no doubt in my mind that you’ll be familiar with at least a few of these.
101 Dalmatians has been both a Disney cartoon and a life action movie. The main human is the wicked Cruella Deville who wants Dalmatian puppies to turn their coats in her coats. It’s a great romp with Cruella getting her comeuppance in the end.
Dr Doolittle was a famous movie starring Rex Harrison, and a trilogy of films were made in recent years starring Eddie Murphy as the guy who could talk to animals, but didn’t want to! Murphy’s humor is great, but the animals may have stolen the show here.
Not all double acts in movies are both human. One of the most famous where the sidekick is an animal is little Milo, who accompanies the Mask on all his adventures.
The most famous pet of them all may be Toto, Dorothy’s dog in the 1939 classic ‘The Wizard of Oz’. He is with her every step of the way and is actually the cause of her going to Oz in the first place. Nearly every child knows of Toto at some point, as the movie is a fixture in the world of classics.
Now that CGI technology have made cartoon animals seem almost real, they have gotten even more fun. The worlds’ top movies stars all want to help bring these animated wonders to life.
