When you first decided to get a puppy, you probably weren’t aware of all the responsibilities that went along with being a dog owner. There are a lot of things that need to be done on a daily basis to take care of a dog and on top of all of that they can be very expensive.

One of the most frustrating things about being a dog owner is not being able to communicate with your pet. You can’t understand them and they can’t understand you. This can make training your dog to understand the boundaries of you property very hard.

Because of the fact that communicating with your dog is almost impossible and training them to stay within the perimeter of your yard can be just as hard, most pet owners keep their dogs leased in the backyard. This can almost completely defeat the purpose of letting them outside in the first place. Leases can make it very hard for your dog to do doggy things like running and playing.

Wouldn’t it be nice if you could just explain to your dog that they can’t leave the boundary of your property. They would be able to run around and have fun outside. You could let them loose and never have to worry about them running off and getting into trouble.

If this is something that you find appealing, then you are in luck. Have you ever hear of wireless dog fences. Essentially, this is a radio controlled device that prevents your pet from leaving a certain radius. For example, you can set a wireless dog fence to have a radius of 50 yards. Your dog will be allowed to roam 50 yards in any direction from where ever you choose.

Wireless dog fences come with two separate parts, the transmitter and a special collar. The way it works is, the transmitter emits a signal that is received by the special dog collar. If the dog collar stop receiving the signal it puts out a correctional shock. This may sound drastic but I assure you this is in no way painful for your pet.

The amazing thing about wireless dog fences is that they show you just how smart your pet really is. You will be amazed how quickly your dog learns their boundaries and within as short a period as a few days will rarely even roam any where near them.

Using wireless dog fences and never having to worry about your dog running away or wandering off is an amazing thing. They will be able to run freely in the yard without being tied down in any way.

A wireless dog fence can truly be a great way to help train your dog, please take a look at my site, wireless dog fences.

There are many reasons to begin a training regime with your pet. You may want to stop an animal’s bad behavior such as clawing or chewing the furniture. You may want to keep him under control in social situations. Or you may want to teach him to perform tricks on command. In any case, the animal will benefit both from the mental exercise required and from the time and attention you give him. The most satisfying form of pet training uses positive reinforcement.

Animals are naturally keen to perform actions that they know will lead to positive outcomes. Positive reinforcement means rewarding your pet for good behavior, rather than punishing him for bad behavior. The rewards most commonly used in training are enthusiastic praise and a tasty morsel of food.

You’ve probably already trained your pet through positive reinforcement without realizing it. If a dog or cat scratches at the door and you open it, they learn to associate the behavior of scratching with the reward of going outside. You reinforce the behavior every time you let them out when they scratch.

Intentional, rather than accidental, training involves getting pets to respond on command. Envision the specific action you want the pet to perform and come up with a single word to trigger it. Cue words of one syllable such as ’stay’ or ‘come’ are less likely to confuse an animal than more complex commands.

As soon as your pet performs an action in response to a command, reward him with enthusiastic praise and a tasty treat. Always give the reward before the animal engages in any other behavior. If you are teaching a dog to obey the command ’sit’, praise and feed him while he is still in a sitting position. If he moves first, he may think he is being rewarded for standing up.

To teach an animal to get off the bed or sofa, chose a simple command like ‘off’. When you find your pet sitting on the furniture, get a food treat and hide it in your hand. Stand over the animal, loudly and clearly say ‘off’ and gently push her to the floor. Immediately praise her and hold the treat to her mouth. Do this every time you catch her sitting where she’s not allowed. Eventually, she will jump off the furniture in response to your command, without the accompanying push.

Once an animal has learned to perform the required action in response to the cue word, gradually stop giving the treat reward, but continue to let her know you are pleased. Dogs respond well to verbal praise and physical affection such as a scratch on the ear. After training, this is usually all the reward they require. Some cats and birds also crave their owner’s affection and can be taught to perform on command without a food reward.

Pet training can be frustrating at times. If the animal is distracted or tired, he may not perform as well as on previous occasions. Be patient and do not expect too much too soon. You should never resort to shouting or punishment. This will have negative consequences as your animal will come to fear you and be hesitant to engage in future sessions. If you make dog training Kelowna fun and give your pet plenty of positive feedback, he will look forward to learning new commands.

Training a puppy can be frustrating, dog training requires discipline and consistancy. When experiencing problems, consult a professional. Bark Busters offer a reliable and affordable service for house puppy training.

Being consistent and not giving up on your dog is what it takes to get started in Crate Training Dogs. Many dog trainers recommend this process to get your dog housebroken. Having a dog go to the bathroom in the house is not acceptable, so this is an easy way to train.

A dogs natural instincts is not to soil his sleeping area or den. When the dog learns that the crate is his special place then he will not soil his sleeping area. A dog likes to have his sleeping area clean like we do.

A cage or crate is a place to put your dog for a short period of time. They are used for travel by airplane, bus, or car. A person needs to get their pet used to it so they can be put in it without causing any stress on the pet.

A dog feels safe when he has properly adjusted to his crate. This is his home where no one will disturb him so he feels protected and secure. Do not put a dog in a crate for punishment, this will defeat the purpose of the crate.

Pets need to learn the rules of the house, just like people do. Chewing on things that are not for dogs is a very important lesson to be taught. It takes time to learn this lesson so a crate or cage will help them to learn. Remember that time and patience is very important, and this could take more time than you expect, depending on the dog.

There are many types of crates. Plastic ones with a locking door are good for home, car or the airport. The dog should be able to stand up and turn around when placed inside. The collapsible metal ones are also good, and then there are fabric cages. Fabric cages are only meant to be used when you are with them.

Toys and some food are a great way to get the puppy or dog interested in the crate. Training is simply done by luring the dog into the cage and providing food and water to encourage him to stay there. Put some food on the outside and slowly dribble it into the end of the cage. The dog will soon find out this is a great place to live.

Whining is a common problem when crate training. If he whines, do not let him out. You must wait until he stops whining, then you can open the door. Gradually put his food bowl in the crate and always make sure there is plenty of water.

If your dog has to be left alone all day then find a way to take care of him, but do not crate him all day. A dog should only be left no more than four hours at a time, and if he sleeps in the cage at night, you do not want to leave him all day.

Keeping a crate close to you will help with night crying. Dogs get lonely and want to be with their masters. If the dog has to go to the bathroom then take him. If he is whining merely because he wants out then make him stay in the crate. Usually the whining will last for a few nights when he first comes home.

Crates should be a good experience for your pet as long as you do not leave it to long. He will adjust and enjoy his bed at night if you take the time to train him slowly. Just be consistent and you will have a happy pet.

Have you ever wondered about the training that goes into training a dog for an electric dog fence system? It can be very easy if you don’t cut corners and if you use a professional. If you do cut corners with the electric fence for dogs because you are impatient or because you use someone not qualified for conditioning, you can create a traumatic experience for your dog that can last for years.

If training isn’t done correctly, dogs can be afraid to even go outside. Poor training can cause dogs to use the home as a place to do its business. It can cause more fearful and timid tendencies to grow. Improperly trained dogs can repeatedly run through the invisible fence and sometimes can never be contained.

It doesn’t take any longer or any more work to do it right from the beginning. I am sure your dog would feel the same way if he/she could express it to you. Done properly, a dog does not have to fear the electric dog fence system; but, will look forward to playing and getting exercise in the yard every day.

What is the best way to train a dog to the invisible dog fence? Use a professional dog trainer. The little amount of money paid for his/her services will present a dog that adjusts easily to its property. A properly conditioned dog will not test the boundary as much; thus, there will be a smaller chance of him evading the invisible fence for dogs. In addition, a properly trained dog will not be afraid of the underground fence system; but respect its boundaries.

There are only a couple of electronic pet containment companies that actually use professional dog trainers to help with training and conditioning. These professional dog trainers are normally part of the staff or are outsourced in the community.

Most invisible fence companies use their installer or hourly employee to help teach your dog. Would you let your neighbor or a person off of the street train your dog? I wouldn’t. And I would not allow someone not qualified to condition your dog to the system. Don’t assume your electric dog fence company has a true professional trainer for conditioning.. Ask them. Let them prove it to you by providing you with obedience testimonials and credentials.

In conclusion, the invisible fence for dogs is an incredible invention for keeping dogs at home. Search for an electric dog fence company that has good quality products and employs professional trainers. If a dog does run through the invisible dog fence boundary, the professional dog trainer should provide a training and conditioning resolution to correct it.

How To Train a Dog With Ease

Bringing a new puppy into your home is a very happy occasion; but this can also be a stressful time, particularly if you have never had a dog before. There is a lot that you’ll need to learn about caring for a dog.

The first thing you need to do is to ensure that your new pet feels loved and secure in their new home. Talk to your dog in a gentle tone of voice and be sure not to yell at them, even when they do something you don’t like. Yelling at your dog can make them afraid of you and leave them with mental scars; they may never look at you quite the same again! As soon as you can after bringing home your new puppy, you should go to dog training classes.

There are plenty of good reasons to have your dog trained? And remember it’s not just your new dog that needs to learn some things; you will have some lessons to learn as well. You need to learn how to handle your new pet and just as importantly, how not to handle it.

You’ll understand the need for training your puppy almost the minute you bring them home. Your new dog will be extremely energetic and will run all over the house, chewing on everything, possibly breaking things and peeing on the floor.

Learning the right commands to use and the right tone of voice to use them in is a big part of dog training classes. Learning these all important elements of dog training and getting lots of practice can help you to prevent (almost) all damage that your energetic new puppy may cause.

You’ll need to walk your dog at least once (preferably two or three) times each day. Your dog has to learn to follow your commands so that they will walk without you having to yank on their leash.

Not knowing how to control your dog when you are out for a walk can lead to disaster. It’s only natural for your dog to want to chase squirrels and other small animals? But they will run into the street after them, which can be catastrophic.

Traffic accidents are one of the major killers of especially dogs and often times it are because the owner can’t control the dog with words and commands. That is why the training part is so vitally important in order to keep your dog from harm.

Pet vitality and well being is very important in order to have a fun and joyful Pet. As a pet owner you should spend enough time and energy in teaching your Pet and yourself the optimal ways to love and respect each other as you will probably be together for a long time.

A well trained dog is like a well-behaved child. They are wonderful! The same applies the other way round ‘ an untrained dog is like a disobedient child. They can cause havoc! That’s why it is important for every dog owner to do some simple dog training.

Firstly, there’s absolutely no truth to the myth that certain dogs cannot be trained. While it may be more difficult to train some dogs, it can be done. And of course some dogs are easier to train. It all comes down to the ability of the trainer and his or her communication skills.

When a dog has been trained, it is secure, happy and relaxed. Every dog wants a leader just like their ancestors who hunted and lived in packs. There was always the ‘alpha male’ that was respected and obeyed by every dog in the pack. Your dog will look to you to fulfill this role.

Start by teaching your puppy his or her name. This is the most important step in training. Once the puppy knows their name, you can immediately get his or her attention in any situation. This will lay the foundation of all other commands.

Next it will be the ‘come’ command. While dangling a treat in front of the dog’s nose, call out as follows: ‘Snoopy, come!’ Little Snoopy will quickly rush up to get his treat. Repeat the process several times, but each time move back a little further from the dog. Each time Snoopy obeys, shower him with affection and praise.

Use the same method when you teach ’sit’ and ’stay’. Always talk in a firm tone whilst giving a dog commands so he or she can identify the varying tones of your voice. Your dog will soon learn when you are playful or when you mean business! Praising is essential because every dog want to please his or her ‘master’.

Be cautious however about how many treats you dish out. While a treat is necessary in the early stages, you don’t want the dog to obey commands simply because she or he can get a treat. You want obedience on command, with the reward being praise. Only use the treats while training. Don’t give treats in between training sessions, because the dog will get confused.

If you want to enter your dog in shows or training competitions, you should seek some professional help. Join a training clinic where you can learn all the formal requirements that go with dog shows. You can get lots of information online about this form of dog training.

Best Dog Training Method For Your Puppy

Many approaches are available for training your dog. You can bring your dog to obedience classes, conduct leash training or collar training, or just simple home training techniques. You have many selection and there are lots of books and DVDs out there to help you to select the best method to train your dog.

Is there such thing as the best dog training method? Is there one method that stand out from the rest or one method that is the most effective? That answer is largely subjective and depends entirely on you and your dog and your own individual personalities.

In selecting the best dog training method, factors to consider include how much time you have to devote to training, how patient you are, and how smart your dog seems to be. All of these will make an impact on your decision on training method.

For example, training by going to obedience class is usually quick and easy, but you do have to make time in your schedule to go. If you don’t have that kind of free time, another method may work better for you.

If you take your dog out on lots of walks, and have this worked into your schedule already, then leash training may be best for you. Those with a lot of free time but no money for classes may opt to simply train their dogs themselves at home. It is all a matter of preference and style.

Another factor to consider is your dog’s preferences. Some dogs are smarter than others, and will respond better to the controlled environment of an obedience class rather than simple one on one home training. These dogs may also respond well to leash or collar training, though some people claim the latter is cruel.

You don’t want to hurt your dog. You just want to find the best dog training method for you both, so that you can enjoy a happy co-existence together in the same home. Find the right way to train your dog, and you will find you enjoy each others’ company a lot more and become close companions.

The Ideal Dog Training With 4 To 8 Jumps

So what is the ideal dog agility jumps to begin with? Even though you can never have too many single jumps, we recommend you to start with four jumps. This is the absolute minimum number of jumps for the ideal training.

It is possible to teach your dog a wide range of exercises, skills and drills with four jumps. The four jumps will make it possible to work on short jump chute or jump grid. You can also setup a “box” with the jumps and teach collection, handling and 270 degree jumps.

You can teach your dog jumping left and right. You can be outside the box and send your dog or you can handle from the inside of the box. Your jumps can be setup in a horizontal line, so that you can practice serpentines and treadles.

Go the next step and get eight jumps. Now you can setup two boxes with one introductory jump. You’ve now multiplied your drills that you can practice with your dog. Your jump grids can be of recommended size and quantity of jumps.

Another variation is to setup the jumps in a circle with jump bars vertical to the circle or on the edge of the circle. This variation can teach the dog a lot of new skills.

Now it is time to start thinking about double jumps and triple jumps. It is fine enough to setup two or three single jumps, but double and triple jumps is of much more value to the dog agility practice. It is not unusual to see a dog doing a clean course until the last triple jump; and then lose it all, because it is not ready for it.

Two sets of eight jumps will really set you ahead of the pack. It is the ultimate in practrice because you can have a jump grip up that is separate from your course training, and have eight single jumps for course training. And when you then include the double and triple jumps, you can really train all the jumping skills and drills needed to get you those “Qs”.

Best Puppy Training Secrets

Ever since the beginning of time, dogs have been the most preferred choice as pets by most households. Many have proven that they are proficient, steadfast, smart and trainable in diverse farm duties and simple household tasks. They can be charming and submissive to their owners but vicious to total strangers. These qualities make them an ideal escort for those who are single in life as well as to couples who are just planning to start their own brood. Babies to older adults will not have a hard time adjusting to their presence.

A lot of the dog’s behavior has something to do with his breed and training in his days as a young pup. Since you can’t do anything anymore about a dog’s breed because it is an inherent part of his personality, you just have to make sure that he was trained well in his younger days so that you won’t be experiencing any attitude problems when he is already a full grown adult. So the next time you want to get a new puppy as a pet, here are some of the well-kept secrets of puppy training that you should know in order to have a well-behaved pet in the future.

The first thing that you have to do is to make your pet feel secure in your company. Spend some quality time by playing with him after you have gotten home from your office. This process will ensure that you have established a good rapport. It’s a no-no to start implementing difficult tricks that would boggle his mind because it will not lead to any learning. After making your pet comfortable, slowly impose discipline by taking away his comfortable lifestyle.

Chain him, put him in his kennel or place him inside a crate to show that you mean business. At first, they might get a little noisy and howl until the wee hours of the morning, especially if they have been previously used to a very free lifestyle. Try to be immune to this kind of suffering. Sooner or later, they will realize that all their whimpering will have no effect on you. This will inculcate the fact that you are the boss and your orders must be followed strictly down to the last letter. It won’t be long before they get used to this set up and will look forward to your arrival.

Second, teach him a simple trick followed by a treat. The treat could come in the form of a small chewable bone or a piece meat. Just like the classic conditioning method by renowned psychologist Ivan Pavlov, they will learn to associate the new trick with food. This will stroke their interest and whet their appetite for more food.

Third, you can go the opposite direction and make your dog realize the power of negative conditioning. This is done by imposing the words no, stop and don’t in the training process. Use a powerful voice if possible. An example would be catching him rummaging through the garbage. So the moment you see him, say stop out loud and give him a slight slap on the tail area.

Fourth, you have to be consistent. When you give a reward or punishment, make sure that it is commensurate to the good task or the bad behavior. Variety is something that needs to be avoided like the plague in this situation because your dog will get confused if you can’t follow through with the initial rules you have set. The same rule applies to all the people in your household including your wife and kids.

Lastly, give plenty of alternatives. If there are chores that your dog can’t easily do as told, like not peeing on the plant, then provide another option like giving him a pee box. This will shift his attention and result to a more favorable attitude. Don’t be such a strict disciplinarian all the time that you will take the fun out of this training exercise. Have fun with your pet dog.
