I am sure that you are a proud new owner of a Yorkie puppy. Having said that, I am sure you want to prevent Yorkie problems at the same time. A lot of mistakes are made by new Yorkie owners by putting off Yorkie training: do not do this by starting Yorkie training when the dog reaches 8 to 10 weeks of age.

If you know anything about Yorkies, they are notoriously strong-willed, independent, smart, and often stubborn. These characteristics make great little personalities, but only if your Yorkie has been properly trained.

Crate Training

Crate training is simply the best method and is found to be very effective in Yorkie Training. One of the big sticking points with Yorkies is training them to be house broken. But with a crate it is a lot easier. The basic premise is this: whenever you are not available to personally supervise your Yorkie, the puppy should be locked in the crate. Every hour, when you start out, let the dog out of the crate to go to the bathroom. Because dogs in general keep their sleeping areas pretty clean, they will hold themselves for as long as they can. Take your Yorkie to the same spot when you take the Yorkie to go to the bathroom.

Leaving And Arriving Home

To help your Yorkie from separation anxiety, there are a few things to keep in mind. To put it simply, do not give attention to the Yorkie at all. If, for example, you pet your dog and give him or her praise before you go to work, can really be a big problem. Your impending departure is being telegraphed to the Yorkie and is actually causing tremendous anxiety for the dog. This Yorkie anxiety can cause all kinds of negative behaviors like chewing on the funiture to pooping on the carpet. So the best type of behavior to prevent this is to practice doing nothing to the Yorkie before you leave the house.

In The Home Be The Alpha-Pack Leader

Make sure that the Yorkie knows who is in charge of the home, and that’s you. There will be significant consequences in terms of their behavior if you do not let this happen. Make sure that the Yorkie knows from a young age who is in charge of the household, as it will make your life a lot easier.
