Considered one of the most enjoyable phases of being a dog owner and lover is waiting for your lady’s pregnancy. Alongside this excitement comes the need to be aware of the transformations that could manifest and is taking place to your dog. For new dog lovers, it may be a somewhat anxiety-inducing as you mentally play with it, if your dog is really expecting a baby or if you are just plainly over-eager and imagining things.

You cut the chase when you look out for these tell-tale signs. While having to deal with new members to your furry friend family is a great thought, you would have to psyche yourself mentally and yet should also prepare for that additional financial bucket. The first thing that you will do if you are suspecting of pregnancy is to bring your dog to the animal medical practitioner. Then again, it may take many weeks just before the veterinarian can fully verify or identify the pregnancy. Before that time, there are some things you can do to verify your dog’s maternity. Considering that doggy pregnancy lasts approximately 63 to 65 days, you should have plenty of time to detect the pregnancy.

The first thing that you need to do is study your pet’s behavior. She may want to sleep more than usual and would like to be left by herself in her corner. If she is obviously fond of your physical affection, she may seem to be aloof at one time and may only prefer to be patted at times. Indicator number 2: Her urge for food will vary. The moment your family dog first starts getting pregnant, it will be typical for her to lose her appetite. As the pups grow up, her preference for food will start to bounce back immensely. She will feel hungry more often and also more thirsty. Be sure that you feed her more and that there is a regular supply of fresh, cool water. Preferably, she should be turned to a diet more in protein. You may swap her back to puppy food as this is higher in protein when compared with adult dog food. Also right now, her nipples will become bigger and suppler. In addition to this, is the notable increase in your pet’s size; she will have the baby bump.

If all these symptoms are present, you should bring your pet dog back to the veterinarian. There are several tests that can be administered to verify the pregnancy of your dog. One of these tests is the ultrasound. This is also safe as it is non invasive and will your pet with the least amount of discomfort. Also at about 25 days into the pregnancy, the pet’s body would release relaxin and this would show up in endocrinological tests. Just don’t forget- the heartbeats will be unable to determine exactly how many puppies she delivers. An x-ray test may be performed to properly find out the number of pups that the family pet is having. On the other hand, this is not recommended as the radiation sometimes have unintended effects on the pups.

As your furry friend is approaching her due date, you may find a white and odorless discharge. Also watch out for her behavior as this would show you if she is going to whelp (give birth). Several days prior to when she gives birth; she will begin to show more behavioral instincts by scratching on the floor to make her nest. She may also prefer staying in dimly lit and quieter corners and may be seen carrying her favorite toys or bone there. Have her temperature using an ear thermometer as the days go by. Her temperature will often drop from101 to 102 degrees Fahrenheit to approximately 99 degrees Fahrenheit. The instant this happens, she will be having a baby within a day! Twenty four hours before she gives birth, her temperature could instantly shift to 99 degrees Fahrenheit.

These guidelines and signs are surefire ways for you to determine if your canine is pregnant. This should truly be a special day for the entire family along with for your family pet so be sure you are fully prepared for your dog’s conception.
